Denver Broncos versus the San Diego Chargers

The Broncos will look to get back on the winning track in a Thursday road game against the Chargers, a 1-4 team that easily could be 3-2 if a few late mistakes would have went their way. ran

Denver last week finally suffered their first loss, losing at home to the Falcons, a team came in with a great game plan and was able to exploit some of the issues on the Broncos.

Here’s some keys to the Broncos and if we think they will get a win over the Chargers.

1. Get to Rivers

The Denver defensive unit has sacked opposing quarterbacks 19 times this season, and while the Chargers have done a good job protecting Philip Rivers, they need to force him into a couple mistakes. If they can get a few players into his face, there’s no question they will have a better chance to force some turnovers and create some short fields for their offense.

2. Get Back to Running the Ball

Last week in the 23-16 loss to the Falcons, the Broncos ran for just 84 yards, with C.J. Anderson getting 41 yards on 11 carries as the teams’ leading rusher. If they are going to control the ball and control the game, the team needs to get back to rushing the ball better. San Diego has allowed just over 83 yards per game rushing, but at the same time Denver needs to be more physical and impose their will on the O-line.

3. Protect the QB

Last week in the loss to Atlanta, the Broncos’ offensive line gave up six sacks, which not only stopped possessions, but also put them behind the 8-ball in trying to get back into the game. This week they have to make sure to keep whatever QB is under center upright. Joey Bosa had a big first game for the Chargers last week, and will look to make some noise on national TV and will have to be accounted for when it comes to keeping the QB on his feet.

Prediction: The Broncos defense should be able to hold down the Chargers, but the question will be can Denver put together more drives on offense than a week ago? San Diego has committed mistake after mistake which is why they are three games under .500 at 1-4, and Denver has been pretty good at staying within themselves, and should be able to get a win here.
